The team is secretive, that's fine. The roster is fine. The jerseys are not terrible, that's fine.
But an effective marketing campaign would have already started, that is at least concerning.
Is this true? I was told that as seats became available in higher tiers, you could upgrade. Maybe that is essentially the same thing?
However I would say that in a modern 20k seat stadium, there is not really a bad seat in the house.
91011Question ()loading...Sure, but success on the pitch doesn't necessarily convert new fans either. If that was the case, the metro should be inundated with Lynx fans.
We live in a medium market with a team in each of the &big 4& (NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL), a Big 10 school, a very popular independent minor league baseball team (Go Saints!) and a slough of other entertainment options.
There needs to be a buzz around the team in order to compete with that and up to this point the FO has not seemed too interested in that aspect.
Not to mention, in order to maintain a healthy sports franchise you need a robust and loyal fan base. Fans = $$ and $$ = success, thus by the transitive property fans = success.
I worry that while the team has done well in transitioning the roster from a NASL to MLS roster, the same forethought has not been put into that same transition for the fan base.
I've gotten the impression a good share of the posters on this sub are STH, so I bet most of us :)
I think the club has given us enough facepalm moments that a bit of sarcasm for a good laugh is not only fair but called for.
In all seriousness though, I heard there will be vending machines with the hats at the match and that is what the coin they are mailing us is to be used for.
Is this true?
He made the remark when we technically had 0 players signed to mls contracts.
So to be fair, at that point he may have been assuming the team was gonna field volunteers from DC and TNE.... But even then we would have at least been better than some of these Chicago Fire teams of years past.
Wait, getting emails from your ticket rep to help them sell season tickets doesn't get you hyped?
Certainly you must be hyped for the commemorative coin though, right?
Totally agree. I've been very pleased with how the FO has gone about putting together this roster opposed to Atlanta's approach this year or NYCFC when they came into the league. I'd rather but a solid core first, then look for DPs that work well in your system.
Where this FO is really lacking (compared to Atlanta and past expansions) is PR. I worry the idea is &oh we can just do the bare minimum, then put all our effort into the new stadium buzz 2 years from now&.
I think you run the risk of alienating established fans while also looking second rate to folks who have finite budgets and a number of options in town as to where to spend their entertainment dollars.
Honestly with as little effort they have put into generating hype and buzz around the team, they should be happy to hit 30k.
I'm of the opinion that they should be pricing the upper bowl to try to sell the thing out. Early on you should be cultivating a larger fan base, which results in better returns down the road.
Not to mention the clubs sales rep staff consistently over inflating how many deposits were already sold during the final weeks of the NASL season for the then yet named Itasca society. My group was told &Yeah, we expect to hit our cap within a month.&
All of these are great examples on why wearable swag is an effective way for the team to get folks talking about the team and build up for the season.
Now, the conversations my inaugural collectors coin will generate are not yet apparent to me...
The sash is convenient for the merit badges the players earn.
I would have preferred the home kits have the gray and blue, but the same template of the away kit. I've never been fond of the sash.
Or a commemorative coin.
That's half correct.
*There are about 60,000 disappointed children that go to Vikings games each week.
I stopped wearing jerseys with other dudes names on them for the same reason I stopped wearing underwear with my favorite wrestler or superheroes on them...
I'm too grown for that.
An Olympico is a direct goal from corner. Its named such due to the first legal goal scored in such a way was scored by Argentina against the Uruguayan team that had just won the 1924 Olympic title.
However, being that the goal last night was off a Vancouver players head, I don't believe it was an actual Olympico. Did they eventually not rule it an own goal?
My bad. In my defense your name gets auto corrected to either Rutter, Router, Renter, or Reiter by my phone... so I'm not convinced it's a real name.
Damn you Jeff Reuter.
Why do you crush my dreams???
I still have to disagree with this.
Yes the teams are connected with their ownership, the stadium they will play in, and presumably a large sh however I don't see why we should care about any of that in regards to the soccer being played (which is what we all care about).
Most folks would agree that one of the most passionate fan bases in MLS are those who support Portland.
All of the points you make about Atlanta are true of Portland's rivals Seattle, but you don't see them rolling out a tifo that is trolling the Seahawks.
They celebrate their team and ridicule their opponents that play on the pitch, not the gridiron.
I guess the point being, the folks who make up supporters groups are not the &average& fan.
We should should focus on the soccer being played on Saturday, who cares what their owner's NFL team does on Sunday?
It just seems if we are resorting to trolling the Falcons, we must not have anything better to say either about MUFC or against AUFC, which I believe to not be the case.
Also not to mention trolling a soccer club based on the opposing city's NFL team's performance is not only lame but is a very MLS 1.0 move.
We can be more clever than that.
I'm going to miss Sammy, but I'm sure there is a USL team out there that he will fit in nicely with.
I totally agree. I don't think the team needed an aged Euro star to get people excited, but a concerted campaign to get folks informed and excited about the team.
To me it seems like once the team found out the stadium deal wasn't going to happen as soon as they'd like, elements of their rollout have been treated as a cold open.
