Turn off your lights for Earth Hour
On Saturday, March 28 at 8:30pm celebrate Earth Hour, a global initiative put on by the World Wildlife Fund.
Notable Vancouver buildings that will go dark for the hour include:
Vancouver City Hall
Vancouver Public Library Central Branch
The False Creek Neighbourhood Energy Utility stacks (at the south foot of Cambie Bridge)
The Museum of Vancouver / H.R. MacMillan Space Centre
The Maritime Museum
Earth Hour has been taking place in Vancouver since 2008.
How to participate in Earth Hour
Turn off your lights from 8:30pm to 9:30pm on Saturday, and use Earth Hour as motivation to make plans and take action to reduce energy use year-round. The symbolic action of collectively turning out our lights can serve to remind us all of the actions that we can take to contribute to our sustainable future.
During last year’s Earth Hour, British Columbians saved 65 megawatt hours of electricity and reduced the provincial electricity load by one per cent: the equivalent of turning off about 1.4 million lights.
Vancouver named Canadian Earth Hour Champion
On February 20, Vancouver was named the World Wildlife Fund’s Canadian Earth Hour Champion for the second time, in large part to the work you have done to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and make innovative steps towards becoming the greenest city in the world.
Greenest City is a bold initiative that addresses Vancouver's environmental challenges.
