古汉语词汇的构成特点
语言有三个要素：语音、词汇和语法。语音是语言的物质外壳，词汇是语言的建筑材料，语法是语言的结构规律。按理说，学习一种语言，首先应当学习它的语音，可是古代汉语的语音知识（即传统所谓音韵学知识）较难理解掌握，所以我们放的后面进行简单了解。这里先学习词汇方面的知识。
词汇是语言中所有词的总汇。古代汉语和现代汉语虽然有直接的传承关系，但毕竟是两种不同的语言系统，因此，其词汇的构成情况并不相同。古代汉语词汇构成方面有两个非常显著的特点，就是：
单音节词占优势；
单音词向双音词发展；
一词多义现象极为普遍。
为了说明上述问题，我们必须首先要搞清以下几个概念：音节、语素、词和字。
音节是语言结构的基本单位，也是自然感到的最小的语音片断。语素是语言中最小的音义结合体，是最小的表义单位。一个语素可以是一个音节，也可以是两个或两个以上的音节。词则是语言中最小的能独立运用的单位，它由语素组成。一个词可以由一个语素构成，也可以由两个语素构成。我们把前者叫做单纯词，后者叫做合成词。语素和词都是语言的基本单位。而字则不同，字是记录语言的书写符号。一般来说，一个汉字只记录汉语中的一个音节。
音节、语素、词和字三者之间的关系表示为：
范增数目项王,举所佩玉i以示之者三 A目 一个音节 一个字 一个语素 一个词
于是焉河伯始旋其面目
两个音节 两个字 两个语素 一个词
窈窕淑女，君子好逑
两个音节 两个字 一个语素 一个词
根据以上分析，我们可以根据词的音节的多少，把它分为单音词和多音词；又可以根据语素的多少，分为单纯词和合成词。例如： 以
