Building a Future with Farmers: Committed to 100% Ethically SourcedWe take a comprehensive approach to ethical sourcing, using responsible
economic, social and env industry collaboration and community development programs.
The cornerstone of our approach is Coffee and Farmer Equity (C.A.F.E.) Practices, one of the coffee industry’s first set of sustainability standards, verified by third-party experts. Developed in collaboration with
(CI), C.A.F.E. Practices has helped us create a long-term supply of high-quality coffee and positively impact the lives and livelihoods of coffee farmers and their communities.
C.A.F.E. Practices includes
in four key areas: quality, economic accountability and transparency, social responsibility and environmental leadership. Taken together, the standards help farmers grow coffee in a way that’s better for both people and the planet. These include:
Product Quality:
All coffee must meet our standards for high quality.
Economic Accountability and Transparency:
Economic transparency is required. Suppliers must submit evidence of payments made throughout the coffee supply chain to demonstrate how much of the price that we pay for green coffee gets to the farmer.
Social Responsibility:
Measures evaluated by third-party verifiers help protect the rights of workers and ensure safe, fair and humane working and living conditions. Compliance with minimum-wage requirements and prohibition of child and forced labor is mandatory.
Environmental Leadership:
Measures evaluated by third-party verifiers help manage waste, protect water quality, conserve water and energy, preserve biodiversity and reduce agrochemical use.
We believe in the continuous improvement of our suppliers and know objective measurement and evaluation is critical. Farms and mills are evaluated by third-party verification organizations overseen by . All of the information we receive from farmers, suppliers and stakeholders allows us to continually improve C.A.F.E. Practices and make farmer participation more meaningful and relevant.
Important additions to the program include practices for supporting the long-term productivity of coffee farms through coffee renovation, or replanting. Additionally, tracking climate change impacts and creating adaptation plans are encouraged to minimize the effects farmers experience from climate change.
We are committed to not only increasing our own C.A.F.E. Practices purchases, but also to making the program available to the entire coffee industry & even competitors. We opt for an &open-source& approach, sharing our tools, best practices and resources to help all producers make improvements in the long-term sustainability of their farms. We are continuously improving this program by working with groups such as Conservation International to measure the true impact our purchasing programs have on participating farmers and producers.
are available to support farmers interested in participating in C.A.F.E. Practices and in creating farm management and work plans to achieve their goals. This includes the work we&re doing at , the coffee farm we bought in Costa Rica in 2013. Not only is it an operational coffee farm, it&s an agronomy research and development center that will help us continue to develop sustainable farming practices we can share with farming communities around the world.

Our Location
We are in the midst of a quiet residential area between Westbourne and Alum Chine – our neighbours don’t realise we are here, then one
day pop in and without fail declare ‘we can’t believe we have never been before, it’s amazing.’ Hence why we are truly a ‘hidden gem’!
The overall experience of the B&B is added to by us being situated in the undoubtedly most beautiful & stylish part (poshest
too!) of Bournemouth ten minutes’ walk in between the glorious Alum Chine beach (accessed by the peaceful chines) as well as the
boutique and independently run shops, eating and drinking places of Westbourne. We are within easy reach of the stunning Purbecks
and historic Poole as well as Bournemouth town centre which is a gorgeous walk along the beach.
We are also popular with families visiting the universities or relatives in nearby care homes. Local residents also like to book rooms
for their visiting family or friends because they apparently ‘don’t have space at home’!! As Bournemouth has been voted one of
the happiest places to live in the UK we feel that we have no option but to pass on the infectious and rejuvenating vibes!
Our customers call us a 'hidden gem' so the problem is we want you to find out about us, try us out, come back again but need to keep our homely, positive
atmosphere.
It is like all good secrets - as an independently run business we believe in providing great people with great food, service and beds. We are here for
people who care about what they eat and where they sleep when they are away from home.
If we attract great people who dare to be different then our space stays great! So we will settle for people finding out about us but stay exclusive...
with a cool edge.
TERESA & ZAK
We are Teresa & Zak, mother and son, we have no idea how we ended up buying a business together but it means we have turned ‘getting on each other’s
nerves’ into a full time occupation. We resolve this by playing to our strengths (read as 'staying out of each other’s way') by Teresa not being allowed
to touch anything vaguely technical or practical and Zak not being allowed to re-arrange anything.
This results in Teresa being labelled controlling (whilst allegedly pretending to Zak he has a 50/50 partnership) and Zak claiming he is playing good cop
to her bad cop.
The one thing we do agree on is, that to be fair although the customer is not always right, they are certainly the most important aspect of our business.
In short – we aim to please (just not each other as some mountains are just too high to climb).
Peter our chef took some persuading to have this photo taken after a day of cooking but eventually agreed because 'you can't smell him through the Internet'.
You also can't see, that despite him being incredibly light on his feet, he is incapable of moving away from hot objects (but has been a chef for 25
years!). This makes for an array of dramatic movements and sounds throughout the day. Making us wonder if an animal has climbed in through the window.
Peter claims his speciality is 'fusion' food or as we prefer to call it 'conFUSION' food due to the fact he is incapable of writing a shopping list. Luckily
his specials evolve from conception to completion whilst still have The Living Room XFactor which is more than can be said for his dramatic moves.
Lucy is our chef's right hand woman at the weekends whilst she is studying for her A Levels. She is our chief list writer and fridge organiser.
There is nothing Lucy likes more than writing labels and organising, but her true genius is her brownies - soft centred and packed with white, milk and
dark chocolate chunks. Even her brownies have to be stacked in a particular pattern! This means that staff as well as customers have attachment issues
with Lucy, there is no way we can let her ever leave school, graduate and achieve a career...!
Daisy is our baking queen and loves to add a final flourish to the place with her artwork. Although more often than not her flourishes involve smashing
something - she is a hazard in the kitchen and rather expensive.
She has terrible taste in music but fortunately is so noisily clumsy when washing up she drowns out the radio anyway. Her specialities are her gluten-free
cakes which we hand on heart believe are the best and most original in the UK, possibly the world...
