Dear principle,I'm writing to tell you about the discussion we have had in our class about whether a mobile phone or beeper should be brought to school. To tell you the truth ,the students have different opinions .In our class about 70% of the students think that students shouldn't bring mobile phone or beeper to school, because with them students may not fix their attention on their lessons ,if by chance the phone is not turned off and the ringing will destroy the class .Further more, using mobile phones will add to their parents' economic burdens .About 30% of the students think that the students can bring such phones to school .Times have developed, and it is not right to keep the students within a certain old discipline .The students who bring phones to school shouldn't be regarded as bad ones.

20080份文档'Dear Forums ...': I'm Attending a Conference as Both Interviewer and Interviewee. Must I Tell My Employer? | Vitae
Questions …
Q (from baphd1996): I've been a corporate manager an educational administrator, and have served on several search committees and interviewed many job candidates. To my surprise and dismay, the last search committee I was on included a representative from HR who handed out "approved" questions to be asked. We had to take turns asking them and could not deviate from the script. It was incredibly awkward. The rationale was that each candidate had to be asked the exact same questions in the exact same manner, so that no one would have a perceived advantage. On one occasion the HR person leaned over and asked me why I didn't ask the question I was given. My response was that the candidate had been giving the answer for the past 10 minutes, so there was no point in asking. Apparently, the HR person was so concerned about the questions that she didn't even bother to listen to the answers or comments that the candidate was making. What a horrible way to do an interview. Does this seem like overkill or is this now standard procedure? Just wondering.
Q (from starrigyrl): I have a delicate situation in which a faculty member has family members with significant special needs. This situation has begun to impact the faculty member's work, to the extent that other faculty members and students have begun to complain. The personal life of this faculty member is not widely known, and it is not up to me to share that information with the complainers (obviously). I would like to gently suggest to this faculty member that s/he contact our ombudsperson about getting help and/or requesting any accommodations to which s/he may be legally entitled. This is such a sensitive issue. The faculty member's work really is being affected by it, but s/he is also really trying hard to handle the challenge. I want to be supportive, but I am also responsible to other faculty members and students who are now also being affected. Any other ideas or advice on how to handle this?
Q (from spectacle): My current institution is sending me to a conference as a search-committee member -- that's been arranged for months. But now, lo and behold, I have a conference interview with another school.
Am I obliged to tell Current School? The only reason I ask is that I feel a little ... dirty ... using their airfare and hotel to potentially step out on them with another school. My spouse says it's irrelevant, as I’ll be doing work for my institution, but still ... .
… and Answers
I'd like to create a personal website that allows colleagues to find me easily on the internet and that looks professional. I'm worried, however, about posting a detailed CV because I have a substantial employment gap. I earned my Ph.D. from a top school on the East Coast, have about 13 years of full-time teaching experience, one book published by a university press, and 50 or so refereed articles. After receiving one research grant for archival work in Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, I ended up staying there from (gulp) 2004 to 2011. I’m almost finished with a second book. My real passion is research and writing, although I am a competent teacher when I put my mind to it.
Technically I have two gaps. One from , after which I received a Fulbright grant to teach in Kyrgyzstan. Then another gap from 2011 to 2014, when I taught at a university in Uzbekistan. When not teaching, I’ve been working in several archives and teaching English privately.
So how should I present this in a way that does not make me look like a loafer?
I'm presently unemployed, and this increases my apprehension about posting a CV online. The academic CV’s that I see online all seem to be of professors who have an institutional affiliation. CV’s of "independent researchers" seem much more rare.
Given all that, which of the following would be most acceptable?
1) Just create a website of my publications, grants, and presentations, but omit teaching, or
2) List courses taught and the specific institution, but leave out the dates, or
3) List courses taught and the specific institutions, and put the dates at the very end, so they are there, but do NOT stand out, or
4) After a brief bio description (in regular prose) and photo at the top of the page, just list my "Publications" (to give me a professional website, but avoid revealing too much information).
Thoughts? How did you deal with employment gaps in your CV?
A (from finding_balance): Your problem is not that you will look like a loafer. In fact, your research record sounds quite strong. The problem is that you don't have an academic affiliation or job title for some of those gap years. But that's not an insurmountable one. Definitely include affiliations with universities in Central Asia, and list the courses that you have taught there (including English language courses.)
You should list the dates on your CV and your website. It will look weird or fishy if you don't do this, especially on the CV.
For gap years, come up with your own title -- "Independent Researcher" seems fitting. Add bullet points or a sentence or two describing what this means. In this job market, I think having recent peer-reviewed publications is more important than having an academic affiliation.
You could also try to get an adjunct-in-title-only affiliation at a university near where you live.
It may or may not be possible, but if you have colleagues or friends in your discipline, you could ask them if they have adjunct affiliations. We have adjuncts (who are not teaching adjuncts) who contribute to the department on a volunteer basis, such as serving on a grad student's committee.
Q (from goneprof): What do you do when a colleague in a collaborative project (an edited volume of articles) has stopped responding to contact? The manuscript is in review and resubmit, almost complete, but we’re two weeks past deadline, on an extension.
We’re both in a rather difficult situation -- she’s given indications that she might be seriously ill, and I’m in the middle of a marital separation and mid-probationary review.
My colleague has not returned emails or phone calls.
She appears to be somewhat active on Facebook, though.
I’ve left a message floating the possibility of adding a last-minute third editor.
I would try to get in touch with her chair or partner, not just because of the volume but because I’m concerned about her well-being. But I fear this might be unprofessional and overstepping.
Up until recently, the collaboration has generally been great.
I was in the initial stages of the project, she later joined in and we tended to share tasks, with me as first editor taking on a few more.
A little over a year ago, shortly before she became tenured, I noticed that there were a lot of delays and that she was taking on a lot of commitments.
The workload on my side increased and I accepted it because my name went first anyway.
She went AWOL once before a little over a year ago, only to tell me (after weeks of not responding to emails) that her department was milking her for service just before tenure review.
I accepted the inevitable delay.
However, I cannot accept this situation any more.
While I am concerned and sympathize with her health situation, I’m aware that she’s taken on more commitments after becoming tenured.
We received the first drafts two summers ago, some authors are becoming understandably impatient, and I’m afraid that my own tenure is at stake.
Any advice or insights will be appreciated.
A (from hungry_ghost): Explain that you need her to tell you clearly where she stands: Is she ill or otherwise unable to assist you in meeting the deadline? She doesn't need to say why, but if she can't help anymore, she needs to tell you immediately. Or can she still assist, and if so, to what extent?
Explain that you are motivated by two things: (1) Genuine concern for her well-being, and (2) concern for your project, including your own career and your commitment to others.
You need to know if she can fulfill her commitment or not, since that will determine how you proceed. Try to make it clear that you are not trying to guilt her into helping out, but rather trying to figure out what you need to do next! It also seems fair to tell her that if you do not receive a response within a day or two, you (a) are concerned enough about her well-being that you will call her chair, or (b) will assume that she is no longer interested in or able to assist with the project and will proceed accordingly. (I would vote for choice (b). I'm not sure what contacting her chair would get you--if she is ill and chair is willing to tell you, that would be good to know, but if she is not ill, it could make for an awkward situation.)
Step 2: If you don't hear back by the deadline you give her, either line up some help or plan to do it all yourself.
I would definitely say "If you don't write back by X DATE I will proceed without you," since you are dealing with someone who already has a history of going off the radar. And do it.
PS: If she does have a serious health situation, don't tell anyone unless she gives you explicit permission to do so. If she is responsive, you can work with her on wording that explains her absence from the project going forward.

Recently, we have had a discussion in our class about whether parents are our best teachers. Some students agree to the point because they think parents help to point out their mistakes in their lives. They teach them a lot about how to live a meaningful life. What's more, parents' love helps to teach them how to love others. So parents are their most important teachers.  However, not all of us hold the same views. Some think that their parents give them too much love, and they are too eager to pass on their values and interests to them. Moreover, their parents sometimes expect too much of them, which makes them feel their goals too difficult to reach.  In my opinion, parents are our important teachers. But parents should also try to understand their children more and limit the generation gap.  2  李华本学期读高三了,开学初老师和家长都要李华住校学习,他却不喜欢住校,双方各持己见。假设你是李华,用英语把这个情况写信告诉中学生英语报请求帮助。有关信息如下:  老师和家长的理由  李华的理由  1. 方便(convenient)问问题  2. 晚自习时间更能保证  3. 培养独立(independent)生活的能力  1. 晚上有更多自习时间  2. 学习内容可以自由支配  注意: 1. 词数100左右;

Should we give more attention to students' health or grades? The Chinese Education Ministry has urged all the students to participate in the winter
long-distance running activity. And now every school is trying to meet the
requirements. However, it aroused various arguments among people including education
specialists, teachers, parents and students. Some people say ''yes" to this phenomenon. They think, for one thing,it can make more
people care about physical education;for another, running can improve students' health and
promote their learning efficiency so they can have good grades. While others hold opposite opinions about the activity. They believe that learning is the
most important task for students and their future depends on what they will achieve in their
subjects.Meanwhile, high requirements don't mean.good health and many can't do it

To set up ...... A good teacher-student relationship will make learning enjoyable and interesting for the students and teaching worthwhile for a teacher. To set up a good teacher-student relationship, a teacher's behavior is especially important. The teacher should motivate the students so that they would like to learn. A good teacher should be patient, friendly and strict. Remember not to encourage students by pushing or forcing or punishing them. Being too friendly may cause students to become lazy and stop working hard. On the other hand, being too strict may frighten students. So,a teacher should avoid going to extremes in treating his / or her students. And the demand for the teachers who should take responsibility for his / her job should encourage students to think independently and learn to study by themselves and also make his lessons lively and interesting. However,as for the students, they should always show respect for their teachers and their work. Students should be eager to learn and willing to put their heart into their study. It's significant for students to listen to their teacher attentively in class and it's more important to learn to come up to questions and work out problems in new ways. In conclusion, a good teacher-student relationship can be mutually beneficial. The students gain knowledge eagerly and enjoyably and the teacher gains satisfaction form his / her job. Taking Part in School Activities As for school activities, students mainly hold two views. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Taking part in school activities As for school activities, students mainly hold two views. Many students are very enthusiastic abo they have their reasons. Firstly, they think that learning from textbooks is not their only task and they should take any chance to get some practical knowledge. Secondly, they hold that after long hours' study, they can relax themselves by participating in school activities. However, a large group of students take little interest in them and spend most of their time on study. They believe that they should make full use of time to study and that school activities have little to do with their further development. Thus sometimes they even laugh at those who take an active part in school activities. As far as I am concerned, I prefer the first view. On the one hand, we can learn a great deal from other students we meet in activities. Furthermore, the modern society requires many qualities of young students, so "book worms" can't keep up with thee times. 6 根据下列图示以"The New Grading System in Our School"为题为你校英语报写一篇短文,说明这一举措以及你对学校实施这一举措的认识. 要求:1.词数100字左右,己给出部分不包括在内. ①tests ②notes ③homework ④class participation ⑤team work The New Grading System in Our School In order to help students develop their abilities in all fields, our school now has asked the teachers to make some changes in the grading system. This chart shows how it works. The New Grading System in Our School In order to help students develop their abilities in all fields, our school now has asked the teachers to make some changes in the grading system. This chart shows how it works. The students' final score will be made up of 5 parts. About 30% of it will come from their test results. The rest of the score is decided by the performances of the students in the following parts: 20% comes from your notes, and another 20% is decided by how you do your homework. If you take an active part in classroom activities, you can get another 20% of the score. Teamwork in class is also important. If you want a higher score, you should be good at working together with your classmates. In my opinion, our school has made a good decision. This new grading system will certainly help to improve ourselves in all ways. Nowadays it's a common phenomenon that parents drive their children to school and back home, which causes a heated discussion., A survey has just been conducted about it , and the findings are as follows. Dear friends, Here are my points .We students of today have to pay much attention to our lessons and know little of society though it's not our fault .A holiday is the best time to make up for that. Taking a part-time job is a good form of social practice. What is learned in books can't have the same deep effect on us as what is learned through experience. In social practice, we can surely make progress in both knowledge and ability. Besides, taking a part-time job, we may get paid more or less to help our family. Thus ,I will say a senior school student should take a part-time job in holidays, if possible ,of course. 9 人们对学生网上交友持不同意见。请你用英语写一篇关于学生网上交友的短文介绍人们的不同观点,并表达自己的看法。 有的人赞成:
