Cairo & The Cairo Criminal Court sentenced on Saturday jihadist Adel Habara and six others to death for killing 25 soldiers in Rafah in August last year.
Militants ambushed a bus in Sinai and shot dead 25 Central Security conscripts after they forced them to leave their transportation on August 19, 2013. The attack, dubbed by the media as the "second Rafah massacre", closely followed the deadly dispersal of two sit-ins set up in support of ousted Islamist President Mohamed Mursi.
Three more defendants were sentenced to life in prison. The court sentenced 22 others to 15 years in prison and acquitted three defendants.
Only Habara and 18 other defendants were
the remaining 16 defendants were sentenced in absentia, judicial sources told Reuters.
The death sentences were served after consulting Egypt's Grand Mufti, a procedural steps adopted in all cases which involve death sentences. The Mufti's rulings are not binding, yet it is customary for the court to adopt them.
In his report to the court, the Mufti said that "the conditions for executing the seven defendants were all present," adding that there is no doubt over their conviction.
The court accused the defendants of "adopting the ideas of the al-Q declaring rulers as infidels and assassinating military and police leaders." It added that the defendants "misunderstand Islam".
The defendants were charged with "committing terrorist acts", the premeditated murder of the 25 conscripts, spying for al-Qaeda group and establishing an illegal group attempting to stall the constitution and state institutions.
Habara has been sentenced to death in absentia before for complicity in two terrorist bombings in Sinai in 2004 and 2006.
Militants have stepped up attacks targeting security forces in Egypt, particularly in the Sinai Peninsula, since Mursi's military ouster in July 2013, which followed mass protests against his rule.
At least 30 military personnel were killed in a suicide blast which targeted a security checkpoint in Sinai's Sheikh Zuweid on October 24, in the worst militant attack since Mursi's ouster.

>>>All Ric O Barry wants is to stop the dolphin&killing, s..
All Ric O Barry wants is to stop the dolphin&killing, so he is headed to this seaside Japanese town, Taiji.The American activist, who is the star of a new award&winning documentary that portrays the dolphin&killing here, got an unwelcome reception when he showed up here this week for the start of the annual hunt.His movie, The Cove(海豚湾), directed by National Geographic photographer Louie Psihoyos, was released in the United States a month ago but has not yet to come out in Japan.Scenes in the film, some of which were shot secretly, show fishermen banging on metal poles stuck in the water to create a wall of sound that scares the dolphins— which have supersensitive sonar(声纳系统)—and sends them fleeing into a cove.There, the fishermen sometimes pick a few to be sold for aquarium shows, for as much as $150,000. They kill the others, spearing(刺) the animals repeatedly until the water turns red. The meat from one dolphin is worth about 50,000 yen, and is sold at supermarkets across Japan.Greenpeace and other groups have tried to stop the hunt for years.Activists hope The Cove will bring the issue to more people internationally—and eventually in Japan.Already,the Australian town of Broome dropped its 28&year sister&city relationship with Taiji last month,partly because of the movie.“Some regions have a tradition of eating dolphin meat,” said fisheries official Toshinori Uoya. “Dolphin&killing may be negative for our international image, but it is not something orders can stop.”The town government in Taiji—which has made whales and dolphins its trademark—refused to comment about The Cove, or the growing international criticism against dolphin&killing.Many in Taiji take the dolphin hunt for granted as part of everyday life. They are defensive about The Cove,seeing themselves as powerless victims of overseas pressure to end a simple and honest way of making a living.小题1:Ric O Barry made The Cove because he wanted to ________.A.stop the dolphin&killingB.win an international awardC.support Greenpeace's effortsD.make Taiji well&known in the world小题2:Viewers can learn from The Cove ________.A.the advanced techniques to catch dolphinsB.the cruel and bloody dolphin&killingC.the beautiful Japanese seaside town TaijiD.the sale of dolphin meat around the world小题3:What is the response to The Cove on the Japanese side?A.Taiji broke up with its western sister&city Broome.B.Japanese officials decided to ban dolphin&killing.C.The town government in Taiji kept silent on criticism.D.Most Japanese people were against eating dolphin meat.小题4:What does the underlined word “defensive” probably mean?A.Feeling guilty for killing dolphins.B.Protecting themselves against criticism.C.Attacking those against dolphin&killing.D.Making the determination to change.小题5:What can we infer from the passage?A.Many people in Japan have seen The Cove in the cinema.B.The Cove has not influenced Japan's international image.C.Taiji's dolphin&killing industry has been seriously damaged.D.The Cove has brought international attention to dolphin&killing.

小题1:A小题2:B小题3:C小题4:B小题5:D日本血腥捕杀海豚的行为通过Ric O Barry的电影The Cove引起了国际社会的极大关注。小题1:解析 文章第一段告诉了我们“All Ric O Barry wants is to stop the dolphin&killing”,结合他的电影The Cove的内容可以看出,Ric O Barry制作这部电影的目的就是想阻止世界上的海豚杀戮行为。答案 A小题2:解析 由第四段该影片对捕杀海豚场景的描述“spearing(刺) the animals repeatedly until the water turns red”可以看出,海豚的杀戮是血腥(bloody)和残酷的(cruel)。答案 B小题3:&&解析 由倒数第二段“The town government in Taiji...refused to comment...”
