【摘要】：正 连词 unless 在多数英汉双解及英英词典里均解释为 if...not,那么unless 和 if...not 是否可交换使用?笔者愿就此问题略抒已见。1.由 unless 引导的条件状语从句既可以是真实条件,也可为非真实条件。作为真实条件句,unless 通常相当于 if...not,即在表示(现在或将来)可能发生的条件句的否定式中,if...not 和 unless 可交换使用,且其意义无明显差别:

（1）状语是什么？哪些形式可以做状语
（2）从句中各个连接词的罗列
(1) 概念：修饰动词、形容词、副词、或整个句子，说明动作或状态特征的句子成分，叫做状语。状语可以表达时间、地点、方式、原因、条件、让步等。它可以由以下形式表示：
介词短语&&&&&&&&&&&& He has lived in the
city for ten years.
不定式短语&&&&&&&&&& To win the game,he tried
分词短语&&&&&&&&&&&& Hearing the news, he
jumped with joy.
副词及副词性词组&&&& Light travels most quickly.

1． 时间状语从句
常用引导词：when, as, while, as soon as, before, after, since
, till, until 　
特殊引导词：the minute, the moment, the second, every time,
the day，the instant, immediately , directly, no sooner … than, hardly …when, scarcely … when
2． 地点状语从句
常用引导词：where 　　特殊引导词：wherever
3． 原因状语从句
常用引导词：because, since, as, for 　　
特殊引导词：seeing that, now that, in that, considering that,
given that.
4． 目的状语从句
常用引导词：so that, in order that 　　特殊引导词：lest, in case, for fear that
5． 结果状语从句
常用引导词：so … that, such … that,
6． 条件状语从句
常用引导词：if, unless, 　　
特殊引导词：as/so long as, only if, providing/provided that,
supposing that, in case that, on condition that
7． 让步状语从句
常用引导词：though, although, even if, even though
8． 比较状语从句
常用引导词：as(同级比较), than(不同程度的比较) 　　
特殊引导词：the more … the more … ; just as …， so…; A
is to B what /as X is to Y; no … not A so
常见的状语从句改为简单句的方法有以下几种：
（1）so ... that引导的结果状语从句可改为简单句too ... (for sb.) to do sth.或enough (for sb.
) to do sth. ,
so that引导的目的状语从句可改为简单句so as to do sth.或in
order to do sth.
（2）由when, before, after等引导的时间状语从句，可以用合适的介词短语来代替。如：
We'll play football when school is over.
→We'll play football after school.
You must wash your hands before you have meals.
→You must wash your hands before meals.
（3）由if, unless引导的条件状语从句，可改为由without引导的介词短语。如：
People can't live if there is no air or water.
→ People can't live without air or water.
（4）由because引导的原因状语从句，可改为含由because of构成的介词短语。如：
We didn't go there because it rained heavily.
→We didn't go there because of the heavy rain.
（5）as ... as引导的比较状语从句，有时可改为“be of the same+名词”。如：
Lily is as old as Lucy.
→Lily and Lucy are of the same age.

2. if / unless引导的条件状语从句常可改为without引导的介词短语。故应填without

【易错点】审题时粗心大意，很容易误认为是not…until…句型，从而误选成A选项。
技巧点拨：考查原因状语从句。A和B选项主要用于引导定语从句；C选项引导目的和结果状语从句；D选项是“因为”之意，引导原因状语从句。分析句子结构，本题不是定语从句。根据语境，应该选择D选项。
