I don't think Westerners understand how much money China has. The economy is not as export dependent as it is in the past. You can use Bayer and Volkswagen as similar examples for Guangzhou's owners, except that Guangzhou's owners combined (Taobao/Alibaba and Evergrande) are 3, 4x larger than either Bayern or Volkswagen by market cap.

Drogba and Anelka had signed for a team with an eccentric owner who couldn't guarantee anything, and even that club is now under new ownership by yet another real estate group, and when you consider the construction boom in China, they aren't running out of money soon.
