横截面回归模型(Cross Section Regression Model),是用于检验一个评价期内的超额收益是否与接下来的持有期内的超额收益有正的相关关系的模型。横截面回归模型由,Tornell和Velasco于1992年正式提出,他们认为,实际汇率贬值,国内私人贷款增长率、国际储备/M2是判断一个国家发生金融危机与否的重要指标。

横截面回归模型由,Tornell和Velasco研究建立因此又称为STV横截面回归模型。他们认为,贬值,国内私人贷款、/M2是判断一个国家发生与否的重要指标。
他们选择了20个国家的,分析了1994年末的墨西哥在 1995年对其他新兴市场国家的影响,考察了货币危机发生的决定因素;将货币危机指数IND定义为1994年11月~1995年4月加权的储备下降百分比和百分比的总和。他们认为:、、与的比率对一个国家是否发生至关重要。此外,他们还确定了两个:当贬值幅度处于低四分位或国内私人高四分位时,第一个虚拟变量取值为1,其他情况则为0;当与量的比率处于低四分位时,第二个虚拟变量取值为1,其他情况为0。结果发现,如果一国的比较脆弱(LB,用年对私人部门的来衡量),(RER,用从年和年的贬值率来衡量),同时,水平(DLR,用/M2来衡量)较低,脆弱(DWF)就会遭到更严重的攻击。

其中:β为7个指标各自回归的。在估计方程中,假设:
(1)贬值的国家遭受的危机较轻,但是这只与较低的和脆弱的经济因素有关,所以有:β2 = 0,β2 + β4 = 0,β2 + β4 + β6 & 0。
(2)贷款膨胀导致危机的严重性增加,但也只是与较低的储备和脆弱的因素有关,因此有:β3 = 0,β3 + β5 = 0,β3 + β5 + β7 & 0。
横截面回归模型评价
Sachs等人在1998年再次选用20个国家的,对模型进行了实证检验,实证结果表明,模型对马来西亚和泰国在1997年的猜测与实际情况相吻合,对巴西和阿根廷的猜测与实际情况也较为一致,然而对印度尼西亚和韩国的猜测准确度较差。
该模型除具有FR模型在选取和方便使用等方面的相同优点外,还使用了横,克服了没有考虑国别差异的不足;同时,该模型的指导思想是寻求哪些国家最有可能发生,而不是分析什么时候会发生货币危机。
当然,在实证检验中也发现了预警的许多偏差,主要在于:
第一,STV模型要求找到一系列相似的样本国家,这在现实中相当困难,因为国与国之间的差异通常很大。
第二,STV横截面回归模型考虑因素范围过于狭窄,只考虑、国内私人贷款、与的比率等。
第三,STV模型的估计方程是线性回归模型,过于简单,而现实情况往往是非线性的。
第四,STV模型对危机指数的定义有失偏颇。
第五,虽然Sachs等人的回归分析法对发生的决定因素进行了有益的分析,但是人们关心的不仅仅是决定危机发生与否的因素,而是希望能够猜测危机发生的时间。
