谢邀!英文简历也是简历;主要看给谁看的,目标客户群大约分三类:1)母语是英语的外国人(加上相近文化背景的欧洲人)。2)母语是汉语但思维西化的人。3)母语是汉语/思维也汉语,但碰巧在西方公司工作的人。大概对应人力资源的三个层次:第3层是HR执行者,就是看简历挑简历的人;第2层是中层干部,直接的用人部门,想像成台湾人/香港人吧;第1层就是外国公司的副总/地区总一级的了,外国人为主。但无论如何,没吃过猪肉也看过猪跑路的第3层也会向“英文简历的模板”靠拢。所以写英文简历的原则如下:1. 尽量不要超过一页A4纸。貌似是从世界500强的HR那里传出来的,因为他们会非常的忙(收到太多简历!)。但如果目标公司不是500强,加上工作年限长,超过一页也是可以的。2. 条理清晰,前后逻辑一致。比如前面写了你在某公司做Marketing, 但大学专业却不是相关专业,那么中间有没有桥接的东西?3. 工作业绩真实可靠。没有是不够有优势的,但写出来就要经得住问。4. 职业路经合情合理。至少能够从HR的角度进行解释。如果面试是问到你的未来规划,也要跟职业道路衔接。否则容易被认为“不靠谱”。5. 文法/遣词造句:不要出现拼写错误一类的低级笑话,用词能够体现英文水平。所以最好能找母语是英语的人修改几遍。但保证你的口语水平足以应付可能的面试。6. 联系方式:简历必留能够体现专业的(至少与所申请岗位相匹配的)联系方式,比如申请生产主管却留个QQ邮箱。7. 针对性:貌似有简历专家说应该针对不同的工作岗位写不同的简历。我也有朋友分职能写了3种简历(如采购类,销售类,市场营销类)。总之,写完之后再把英文简历放在自己面前看一遍,并从用人公司HR的角度(以上谈了3个层级哦)看看是否有逻辑性,有说服力,最关键是否有录用潜质。供参考!
Before anything, know which industry/company you are applying. There's no one resume that will fit everything, so you always want to customize your resume. I did recruiting for consulting and banking, and helped some of my friends revise their resumes for software developer positions. I can only talk about those industries and resume for entry-level positions. (AKA, this answer is not gonna be super helpful if you are writing resumes for other industries. Engineering, marketing, advertising, and all other industries may have really really different preferences for resume.) Length: if you are still an undergrad, keep it in one page. Honestly, you don't have that much experience. Be concise! Sections:- Name, email, phone number, address (basically contact information, make sure those are accurate and update-to-date, so you can actually be contacted). - Education. If you are applying for internships or first full-time job out of college, put eduction on top. Include your major, GPA, expected graduation date, some honors or awards, and relevant courses if you have enough space. For banking and consulting, please also include your SAT or ACT scores (with breakdowns). - Work Experience. Start from your latest work/intern experience. Include company name, your position, duration of the internship, location, and 2-4 bullet points. Each bullet point should try to highlight some different skills you learned. - Leadership Experience. Same as work experience section, start from the latest experience. Similar stuff, but focus on on-campus and extra-curricular activities. - Interests/Skills/Language. for language, specify your fluency level. (E.g. Fluent in Mandarin, conversational in Japanese) for skill, probably include softwares you can use, computer languages you know, etc. Interest is prob one of the most important sections for aspiring bankers, but not as important for consultants or developers. - Projects. for developer position, if you don't have hella ton work experience, you could probably add a "projects" section after work experience before leadership experience. Tips: Find some sample resumes online, pick one and basically use that format. It's wayyy easier than starting from scratch. Use past tenses for all bullet points.Never use period. Alignment. Accuracy: No typo. No grammar mistake. If you want to stand out, especially for consulting recruiting, make each bullet point more result-oriented. Not only describing what you have done, but also including the result and impact. Use numbers to quantify your actions and impacts. (This is more true for consulting I guess)Don't overuse italics or bold. Awesome awesome website about how to revise your consulting resume: Consulting resume verbs: I know it may be really different from Chinese resume (I've never written one so I have no idea) and there are a lot of different resume etiquettes. However, at the end of day, you want people to understand what you have accomplished and why you could be a good candidate for the position. I guess the goal is the same for both in that sense. :)Just my two cents.
不管是中文还是英文简历,确保两件基本的事,组织有序和没有拼写错误。现在,你能在网上找到很多非常专业的英文简历样板。所以交出一份乱七八糟的简历,你是没有任何借口可以解释的。例如,有一个外国网站叫Monster, 上面有非常多的针对不同工作职能的简历样板 &&至于有没有拼写错误,作为一个以英语为母语而且看过很多中国职场人士的简历的人,我对拼写错误的容忍度是非常低的。对于语法错误,我觉得,既然英文不是你的母语,我觉得犯一些语法错误是可以理解的,只要你能合理地表达出自己的想法就行。但是拼写错误显示了你不够注重细节和质量,特别是word文档有语法检查这一项功能!所以要确保简历发出去给别人之前,先检查一下自己的拼写错误,毕竟别人是根据你的这份文件来开始评判你的!Whether it’s a Chinese or English resume, two most basic ones are to make sure that it’s well-organized and mistake-free.
These days, you can find many resume templates on the internet that are very professional, so there should be no excuse for your resume not to being well-organized. For example, here’s a link to a website that even has many different resume templates for many different job functions &&.For mistake-free, as a native English speaker who views many resumes from Chinese professionals, I’m much more critical of spelling mistakes compared to grammar ones.
For grammar mistakes, I realize that English is your second language so I’m more forgiving about these, as long as you can reasonably express your thought and points. But spelling mistakes show your lack of attention to detail and quality, especially since there’s a spellcheck function in Word.
