A Half-Century Of History:
was born in Cambiago, a small rural village twenty kilometers east of Milano on February 9, 1932. His parents, Antonio and Elvira, were farmers who were well thought of in the district. They were hard workers and the home of the ’s was a simple farmhouse, where the three brothers of Antonio, Fiorentino, Ambrogio also lived, as well as Grandfather Filippo. Little Ernesto had a typical childhood for the era until he was 6, when he began school and helped out with chores on the farm. One fine day in 1943, Papà Antonio sent little Ernesto to work in the local country store. That was the end of his regular schooling. Better yet, first work, then night school. Young Ernesto went to work in a little workshop owned by a certain Dante Fumagalli, to whom the
family paid two kilos of flour each week for the apprenticeship of his son. Right after World War Two ended, a friend of Ernesto, found him a new direction. He found an ad that said Gloria, a Milanese bicycle factory was hiring.
It was November 25, 1946, Santa Caterina Day when young Ernesto entered the gates of Cicli Gloria, on viale Abruzzi, 42. Ernesto was just 13 years old, but to start work, he had to be at least 14. He changed the date on his working papers and so was hired as an assistant welder.
was also a good amateur cyclist: a proud and determined rider. Bright and creative, his ideas and flights of fancy were no drawback for him. During the 1951 racing season, Ernesto was racing in the amateur classic Milano - Busseto. During the tight final sprint, there was a massive crash and&&young
didn’t come out well. He broke his right leg and had to spend fifty days immobilized in a crash. But Ernesto didn’t get down: not at all! He asked Mr. Focesi of Gloria to send him wheels to build at home which was a stroke of luck. Quick and accurate at building wheels, Ernesto realized he could make more money working at home, enough to let him start working at home as a sub-contractor.
It was 1954 when
went out on his own in a tiny little workshop, 5 meters square on via Cavour in Cambiago. And it was there that Ernesto
started his career as a bicycle builder, the “Benvenuto Cellini” of bicycles as he was called by famous Italian sportswriter Gianni Brera called him. Since then, his bicycles have been used by more than 100 professional team, 2500 professional racers, who have won more than 7500 wins worldwide. Champion riders of the caliber of Fiorenzo Magni, Gastone Nencini, Eddy Merckx, Giuseppe Saronni, Gianni Motta, Gibì Baronchelli, Michele Dancelli, Gianni Bugno, Oscar Freire, Johan Museeuw, Tony Rominger, Pavel Tonkov, Yaroslaw Popovych, Erik Zabel e Alessandro Petacchi, and many others, have ridden
Bicycles to victory. Ernesto
has always been an innovator.
His first great ideas came in the early 1950’s when he decided to create the first cold-forged bicycle forks. After that, there were innovations like the lighest bicycle in the world (5.6 kg), with left ’s mark on the era when Eddy Merckx rode this bicycle to the World Hour record in Mexico City on October 25, 1972. From this project, the
“Mexico” was born with it’s innovative helical shaped tubing. The next important step for
was in 1983 when the Cambiago workshop created two authentic jewels, the aerodynamic “Oval CX” and “Master”, with innovative bi-conic star shape tubing. Just when many thought Ernesto
could not take bicycle design innovation further, his next brainstorm became reality. As the great researcher and innovator he is,
created the first frameset in carbon fibre in collaboration with Ferrari Engineering in 1986. The next year, the innovative straight-blade “Precisa” was created. In 1989, two years later, the dramatic
“C35” emerged, an innovative monocoque carbon fibre frame in road racing & mountain bike versions. From this experience, more innovation emerged from , like the “Carbitubo”, a carbon fibre frame with two parallel downtube. In 1991 was the “Bititan”, a lightweight frameset in Titanium. 1994 was a hallmark year when
introduced the ground-breaking “C40” carbon fibre frameset for his 40th anniversary and still a reference point today. No other frame has won as much as the
C40: 5X Paris-Roubaix and many World Championships. In 2000 another remarkable model emerged from ’s atelier: the limited edition CF1, created in collaboration with Ferrari that quickly became a major success. Next was the CF2 dual-suspension mountain bike in 2002.
After ten years of success in every segment, Ernesto
launched the “C50” in 2003.
It was the 50th Anniversary of his company, a brand that has become synonymous with the best bicycles the world over, synonymous with the best products Made in Italy. This new carbon fibre composite frame quickly found success in both the competition and sales arena. And for 2004, for the official anniversary of , a special collectors item bicycle was created, the “50th Anniversary”.
2008 is another landmark year in the history of . Key innovations include the introduction of a semi-integrated headset (C-HS) on the CX-1 Carbon and EPS Carbon models. For 2008, look for extremely lightweight and high-performance models that are capable of winning the most important races in the world.
After five decades of innovation and experience, Ernesto
continues to dream about and create bicycles appreciated by riders passionate about cycling all over the world. Don’t ask
which of his bicycles is the best: his answer is always the same. “I’ve made a lot of bicycles, but the most beautiful is the one that is yet to come.
De Rosa have been making top end Road Bicycles since the 1950s and are firmly established as one of the worlds premium Road Bike makers. De Rosa bicycles are an Italian based cycle maker the company having been started by Ugo
in the early 1950s when he opened his first cycle shop specifically for the sale of racing bikes. Ugo
had a long interest in cycling from an early age being born in 1934 in Milan, Italy. A keen cycle racer from his early years Ugo De Rosa became interested in the mechanics, design and engineering of Road Cycles and after attending technical college and opening his first De Rosa cycle shop in Milan, Italy Started designing and the making of Road Bicycle frames specifically for the high end Road racing elite. In 1958 Ed Rosa had gained such a reputation for his Road Cycle Frames that he was commissioned to build a Racing Bike by the famous Italian cyclist el Germiniani for the upcoming
de'Italia. This quickly led to a greater interest in De Rosa Race Cycles from the top teams and riders of the day and by the early 1960s
Bicycles were common place in the professional cycle peloton in all the worlds great cycle races and cycle tours. The Italian Faema Pro Cycle Team was the first to ride
made Road Bikes. Other Teams from the 1960s who rode De Rosa cycles include the Tbac Team and Max Majer Team. By the late 1960s De Rosa was being courted by a number of the bigger teams to design and build Racing Bikes culminating in 1973 when the Molteni Cycle Team and its world famous cyclist Eddie Merckx rode De Rosa Bikes.
The Molteni team rode all the Great races including the Tour De France and Milan-San-Remo. This further increased the profile of
and greatly added to the
order Books.
Bicycles are now one of the highest rated and highest profile producers of Road Cycles and have remained a fixture amongst the Pro Cycle Circuit ever since. Current Top models produced by the excellent
brand are the
Idol. Both full carbon bikes and the
Titanio, which as the name implies is made using high quality Titanium.
If your looking for a top quality Road bike with a wealth of history and technical know how and a passion for producing bicycles of the very highest specification utilising cutting edge technology and incorporating style. Then
cycles are among the very best.
Irio Tommasini has spent most of his life around bicycles. In 1948, while still racing as an amateur, he started working on bicycles. His building career started at an important bicycle factory in Milan where he had the opportunityto gain valuable experience and learn the techniques that enabledhim in 1957, to start his own business in his home townof Grosseto.
By the end of the 60's his factory had increased domestic sales in Italy, and had begunthe exportation of Tommasini frames abroad.
Even at that early period, Tommasini's frames where appreciated for their fine finishes and their true racing geometries,
by then, many amateurs and professional racers had been racing and winning on Tommasini's frames.
During this time, Tommasini worked under and received guidance from his friend and mentor Giuseppe Pelà, Italy's premiere frames builder.
Pelà built magnificient winning frames for many top italian and european professionits, and upon his retirement in 1972 passed on
his traditions and skills to Tommasini. Tommasini has carried on these traditions and has added a few innovations along the way.
Today, Irio and his employees produce betwen 2000 and 2500 frames per year with most of them being exported throughout

Wilier was born in 1906 thanks to the brilliant idea of a trader from Bassano, Pietro Dal Molin, of building bicycles on his own account. His forge or \&Steel horses\& rose as a small workshop along the banks of the river Brenta, at Bassano del Grappa, and it became more and more successful by keeping up with the increasing demand for bicycles.
In the first post-war period, Mario, one of Dal Molin's sons, gained the leadership of Wilier and he began a constant perfectioning of the bicycles through chromium and nickel-plating. Under his leadership, the production increased considerably and the firm, which came unsmirched out of the II World War, after the Armistice, started again its activity.
Those were the years of the Reconstruction, when the bicycle was the most important means of transportation as well as cycling, together with football, became the most popular sport. For this reason, Dal Molin determined to set up a professional team captained by the triestin Giordano Cottur, well-know for succeding no less than Gino Bartali during the Bassano-Monte Grappa lap for amateurs. In the same time, according to the common feeling of uneasiness about the fate of Trieste, Dal Molin decided to associate the name of this julian town to that of his own firm. In this way, in Autumn 1945 the Wilier Triestina was born, distinguished by its red copper-coloured bicycles, which later became an authentic trade-mark.
The following year the team took to the first Tour of Italy of the post-war period, cutting in the duel between two great champions, Coppi and Bartali, and gaining flattering victories in several laps. After all those successful races, Wilier became part of the most important Italian cycling: this big industrial boom involved an enlargement both of the plant and of the staff, in the order to meet t so, the production reached 200 bicycles a day, employing 300 workers.
Strong in its success and thanks to the prestige it had gained, in 1947 Wilier bought up a promising young cyclist: Fiorenzo Magni, this one, instead of being crushed in the challenge between Coppi and Bartali, found out the right system to become the third great protagonist of Italian cycling, by winning the Tour of Italy in 1948. This is the same year Wilier spread its intense activity in South America too, where a small team of local professional cyclist collected dozens of wins. In the following season, the team, reconfirmed for its great performances, won several national races, until it became successful in 1949 and in 1950 in the Tour of Flanders and the Tour de France.
Unfortunately, after the first enrapturing phase of national reconstruction, in the early '50s, came the period of the economic miracle: people gave up bicycles to discover scooters and motorbike. Cycle firms suffered the damage of progress, and in 1952 Wilier Triestina had to shut down and leave its agonistic activity. Nowadays, the glorious story of this firm and of its \&copper-coloured jewel\& lives again thanks to the Gastaldello brothers from Rossano Veneto, who bought the Wilier Triestina mark in 1969, proud to bring again great favour to one of the best known Italian cycle houses and providing dozens of professional and dilettantish Italian and foreign teams with their bicycles.
A HISTORY OF SUCCESS
The renown of Wilier Triestina has always been linked to the heroics of the great champions of cycling. The first pro team of the Gastaldello era was the Mecap Hoonved squad of Mario Beccia in 1979, who won a stage in the Giro d'Italia that year.
In 1981 came the Selle San Marco team of Alfio Vandi, winner of the Coppa Placci. Few results came from Selle San Marco (1982), Mareno (1983) and Supermercati Brianzoli (1984), but more success was just around the corner. In 1985, still with the Supermercati Brianzoli squad, Wilier triumphed with the Italian Road Championship with Claudio Corti. He also won the Giro dell'Umbria and Giro di Romagna.
Wilier Triestina exited professional cycling for the remainder of the 80s through the early 90s but returned in '95 with Brescialat, which prevailed with Podenzana in the Giro di Toscana and with Piccoli in the 15th stage of the Giro d'Italia. Meanwhile the company had moved its headquarters to Via Fratel Venzo. 1997 was a historic year: Wilier was the official bike of Mercatone Uno, and therefore also of Marco Pantani. The Pirate was at the peak of his career, but crashed out of the Giro d'Italia. He returned at the Tour de France winning the Alpe d'Huez and Morzine stages. A true friendship between Lino and Pantani was born: the champion spontaneously gifted him his jersey and his dedication.
Now with Liquigas, the victories continued. Gonchar won the 1999 World Time Trial Championship, while Rebellin ushered in the Tirreno-Adriatico with a flurry of victories in 2001. In 2002, Wilier and Mercatone Uno were back together again, but Pantani, after the storm he had weathered, was not the same as before.
2003 saw a dual sponsorship: Lampre and Gerolsteiner. Casagrande on one side and Rebellin on the other. Together they awarded numerous successes to Wilier, and the following year brought the rainbow jersey-wearing Astarloa to Lampre. In 2004 Rebellin scored the historic triple of Amstel, Fleche Wallonne and Liege. In the next two years, with the French team Cofidis, Wilier won a stage in the Tour de France and the Vuelta a Espana with Moncoutie with Bertagnolli. Recent years have seen consolidation of the Lampre-Wilier relationship. The main spokespersons for the Rossano company were Cunego and Ballan.
Memorable victories included the 2007 Tour of Flanders for Ballan and 2008 Amstel for Cunego as well as the 2007 and 2008 Giro di Lombardia.
The ultimate glory was in September 2008, when Ballan won the World Road Championship in Varese on Wilier, just ahead of his illustrious teammate Cunego.
THE LAST YEARS
Even in the last Grand Tours, Wilier Triestina has been a protagonist with two athletes of the highest order. At the 2010 Tour de France, Alessandro Petacchi won the green jersey for leader in the points classification.
Only a year later, in summer 2011, Michele Scarponi won his first Giro d'Italia (awarded victory later after the disqualification of Alberto Contador).
The era of the Wilier Triestina Best Seller continues with exciting new models.
Cento1: light, stiff, fast and responsive. A model that scored a real triumph in sales.
Granturismo: for those who enjoy cycling in maximum comfort without sacrificing the performance of a more responsive racing bike.
TwinBlade: a time trial bike with a totally new and innovative aerodynamic design.
Zero.7: the lightest frame ever before built. Less than 800 grams.
Cento1 SR: the sum of all the features of previous models. Aerodynamics, light weight, torsional rigidity and comfort.
A range of models that is continually evolving, guaranteed by the results and experience of the athletes of Team Lampre-ISD.
In the last decade, and especially since 2008 - due to the success of international cycling and of the new models, Wilier Triestina continues to increase and consolidate its presence in the international market, with double digit growth in terms of revenue and bicycles produced.
