Representing House District 34 in the area southwest of the City of Spartanburg, Forrester, 62, said he has brought sound business judgment to Columbia and economic development to Spartanburg.
He's running against Gaye Holt, a petition candidate booted from the Republican primary election ballot earlier this year in a state Supreme Court decision that removed more than 200 candidates from the ballot, a decision that Forrester called who lives in Spartanburg, said his 37 year career in business and parallel 30 year career in the United States Army Reserve has taught him how to solve problems and make tough decisions.
It's a double edged sword, that allows him to tout his knowledge of the economy and his ability to bring jobs and foster business in the community, but it also opens him to criticism that he's double dipping from two government jobs and has an inherent conflict of interest whenever he votes on state money for higher education.
He pulls an annual salary approaching $90,000 at the community college, but he reported only $58,894 on a statement of economic interests document he filed with the state in 2011. He said the latter figure is what he actually earned.

She got enough signatures to qualify, and the race for House District 34 was on again by the summer. In the meantime, Forrester has sent mailers positioning himself as the true Republican in the race.
Republican ticket will protect the Constitution, says one. The mailer features Forrester next to GOP presidential and vice presidential nominees Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.
