Do you know why different
animals or insects(昆虫)have their special colors? Colors are used mainly to protect
themselves.
Why can’t some birds easily
catch locusts(蝗虫)? It is because locusts change their colors together with the change
of the colors of crops(庄稼). When crops are green,
locusts look green. But as autumn comes, locusts change to the same brown color
as crops have. Some other insects with autumn comes, locusts change to the same
brown color as crops have. Some other insects with different colors from plants
are easily found and eaten by others. So they have to hide themselves for lives
in the day and appear only at night.
If you study the animal
life, you’ll find the main use of coloring is to protect themselves. Bears,
lions and other animals can’t be easily seen by hunters(猎人). This is because
they have the colors much like the trees.
Have you ever noticed an even more
strange thing? A kind of fish in the sea can send out black liquid(液体)when it faces
danger. While the liquid spreads over(散开), its enemies(敌人)can’t find it. And it quickly swims away. So it has lived up to now
though it is not strong at all.

If you go into the forests
with friends, stay with them. If you don't ,you may get lost. If you do get
lost, this is what you should do.
Sit down and stay where you
are. Don't try to find your friends. Let them find you. You can help them to
find you by staying in one place.
There is another way to help
your friends or other people to find you. Give them a signal(信号)by shouting or
whistling(吹口哨)three times. Stop. Then shout or whistle
three times again. Any signal given three times is a call for help.
Keep on shouting or
whistling, always three times together. When people hear you, they will give
two shouts or two whistles. When a signal is given twice, it is an answer to a
call for help. If you don't think that you will get help before night comes,
try to make a small room with branches (树枝).
What should you do if you
get hungry or need to drink water? You would have to leave your little branch
room to look for something to eat and drink. Don't just walk away. Drop small
branches as you walk so that you can find your way back.
The most important thing to do when you
are lost -- stay in one place.

&“How are you?” is a nice
question. It’s a friendly way that people in the U.S.A greet each other. But
“How are you?” is also a very unusual question. It’s a question that often
doesn’t need an answer. The person who asks “How are you?” hopes to hear the answer
“Fine” ,even if the person’s friend isn’t fine. The reason is that “How are
you?” isn’t really a question and “Fine” isn’t really an answer. They are
simply other ways of saying “Hello” or “Hi”.
Sometimes ,people also don’t say
exactly what they mean. For example, when someone Asks “Do you agree? ”,the
other person might think ,“No, I disagree. I think you’re Wrong...”But it isn’t
very polite to disagree so strongly, so the other person might say “I’m not
sure .”It’s a nicer way to say that you don’t agree with someone.
People also don’t say exactly what they
are thinking when they finish talking with other people. For example, many
talks over the phone finish when one person say “I’ve to go now.”Often, the
person who wants to hang up gives and excuse :“Someone’s at the door.” “Something
is burning on the stove. ”The excuses might be real,or not. Perhaps the person
who wants to hang up simply doesn’t want to talk any more, but it isn’t polite
to say that. The excuse is more polite, and it doesn’t hurt the other person.
Whether they are greeting
each other, talking about an idea, of finishing a talk, people don’t say
exactly that they are thinking. It’s an important way that people try to be
nice to each other, and it’s part of the game of language.

Jess really felt very happy.
When he arrived at his seat in the classroom that morning, he found an
invitation(请柬)on his desk. It was from several of his classmates asking him to
join them on a camping trip. This was the first time he was asked to join in an

Partying is fun. But have
you ever been invited to a party by a foreigner ? What should you wear ? Should
you bring anything ? If so, what ? Don’t worry. Today we are going to give you
some tips(小提示)about partying with foreigners.
First, you should ask if it’s a formal
or casual(非正式的)party. Then you will know what to wear. It’s as simple as that. At a
casual party , it is customary to bring a bottle of wine or some other
refreshments(点心). It is not considered polite someone
along with you unless you first ask your host. At more formal parties like
birthdays, a small gift will be sufficient( 足够). Giving
money would cause some embarrassment. Finally, never overstay your welcome.
When it’s getting late, it’s time to thank your host for a wonderful evening
and say good night .

& The film is very exciting and
dramatic(戏剧性的),but it is also romantic and very sad. It is about the ship, the
Titatic, which sank in Atlanic in 1912. It is a love story. The two famous
stars are Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslette. They fall in love aboard the
ship, but are not allowed to be together as she is rich and he is poor.
Leonardo is excellent as poor, handsome Jack and Kate Winslette is perfect as
rich and beautiful Rose. The best thing about the film is the part where the
ship is sinking. This love story doesn’t have a happy ending.
& Flubber is a comedy starring(主演)Robin Williams
as a forgetful scientist. He is very forgetful and he even forgets his own
wedding ! Flubber is the name of the amazing green stuff that he invites. The
plot(情节)is about two bad men who try to steal both
Flubber and the scientise’s girlfriend. The scientist has lots of
sillyadventtires(历险) with Flubber, and he is really
funny as the mad scientist. The best thing about the film is the special
effects as Flubber changes into all different shapes and sizes and even does
