Prof. Dr. Weidong ZHU is currently Deputy Director of the Centre for African Laws and Society, Xiangtan University, Hunan Province, China. He did his post-doctoral research at the Faculty of Law, University of Cambridge, from June 2008 to May 2009 and worked as a visiting research scholar at the Law School, Seoul National University, South Korea, from September 2011 to August 2012. In 2006 he was awarded the Excellent Young Teacher in Hunan Province and was selected as a member of the 121 Talents Project in Hunan Province. From September 2010 he served as a member of the Secretariat of the FOCAC Legal Forum Coordinating Council. He is now director of the Chinese Private International Law Society, Chinese African History Society, and Chinese Asia and African Studies Society, respectively, and is invited as arbitrator in the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa (AFSA), associate editor-in-chief of Journal of Cambridge Studies (UK) and founding editor of Journal of Law, Society and Development (South Africa). His research covers African law especially the settlement of China-Africa civila and commercial disputes, private internaitonal law, the harmonization or unification of private international law in East Asia, international commercial arbitration, the settlement of international investment disputes especially China-Africa investment disputes. So far, Prof. Weidong ZHU has undertaken two national social science projects and has published extensively on private international law, international commercial arbitration, the settlement of China-African disputes in many worldwide leading journals such as Journal of African Law, Penant, Journal of Private International Law, Yearbook of Private International Law, Asian International Arbitration Journal, Journal of Asian Business Lawyer, etc. And he has been frequently invited to many international conferences held in Macau, Hong Kong, Mozambique, Congo, South Africa, Nigeria, South Korea, Japan, etc, and has made various keynote speeches at the conferences.
