&& Nothing could be more shameful for McDonald’s and KFC. They are violating labour’s rights. The government must immediately bring the guilty to justice. A stricter government inspection system must be enforced to protect the workers.
It is known that McDonald’s and KFC and other fast-food restaurants pay the lowest wage they possibly can to get their employees. I think it’s kind of funny that these two restaurants have not yet set up unions. It is also known that they also take every possible measure e(legal, and sometimes illegal) to prevent their employees from forming or joining unions. I think it is high time that government enforced the law that they have made.
The deepest reason is that China has a large population. If you complain that the pay is very low, the boss will tell you that can go to other places and that there are a lot of people waiting for the job. Today finding a job is not very easy, so you don’t have many choices, and you have to face the reality.
If wages were too low, people wouldn’t work for them, but they do, so it proves the wages are reasonable. Sure, they could raise the wages, but why should they? The workers are still working, still willing to show up on time, and it keeps costs lower. Were they to raise wages, they would have to FIRE more workers, and the price of burgers would go up. Then people wouldn’t buy them, then McDonald’s would once again FIRE more workers because of a reduced demand, and you’d be back in the same boat, just with less people working.
What are they debating about?
A.McDonald’s and KFC pay too low a salary to their employees.
B.Setting up a social security system.
C.Fast-food restaurants have no rights to fire workers.
D.McDonald’s and KFC will be punished for their behaviour.
According to Chip, it is____for McDonald’s and KFC to give employees a low salary.

In the opinion of Cushman, the key to the problem is that____.
A.the social security net has not been set up
B.China has too large a population
C.the government has not taken stronger steps to protect workers
D.the unions have not played an important part to raise the wages.

How to Manage Your Time Effectively
It has been said that “Time is Money” – but I
disagree. Isn’t Time really LIFE? At the end of your life, can you even imagine
saying to yourself, “I wish I’d made more money.” It’s more likely you’d be
thinking “I wish I’d had more TIME – time to enjoy my life more.” Here are my
favorite strategies for managing that most precious of all resources – TIME.
1.____________
You can’t find something you’ve lost when you don’t
know where you might have lost it in the first place. So keep track of the
exact time you begin and end an activity, and write down a few words to
describe the activity. This requires you to be really honest with yourself and
track your time – so if you spent 23 minutes chatting with coworkers over
coffee – write it down EXACTLY!
2.____________
Review your time logs(记录)and
start to classify the tasks into categories(范畴). You will
create these categories yourself. Some examples might be: Administration,
Business Development, Sales & Marketing, Computer, etc. You will then sum
up how much time you spent doing tasks or activities for each category, in the
exact number of minutes. You might also do a little math, to figure the
percentage of time each category takes out of each day.
3.____________
If you were honest and diligent, chances are that you
had suddenly awakened after you reviewed your daily time logs. You no doubt can
see where the time is wasted – and now you’re ready to make a better schedule.
Make the best of your time by considering when you’re at your best for certain
tasks, by grouping similar tasks together for greater efficiency, and by
setting aside certain time for doing uninterrupted work. Think where different
tasks can best fit into your day. Then actually write this routine down and
post it where you see it every day.
4.____________
You can create your own easy tools to do this. On one
sheet of paper, create 5 sections: High Priorities(优先), Secondary Priorities, People to Contact, Telephone
calls, and Schedule. You can fill this out each day, first thing in the
morning. Each day, ask yourself: “If nothing else gets done today, what are the
one or two items that absolutely. MUST be done?” You should also regularly go
back to the time logging exercise, so you can determine if you are slipping
back into those old had habits and take immediate steps to get back on track.
5.____________
More often than not, we take on more than we should
because we don’t want to hurt someone else’s feelings. When we burden ourselves
too much, we are not only creating unnecessary stress in our lives, but we are
also creating potential situations where we cannot deliver what we’ve promised.
We also don’t realize that when we can’t deliver what we’re promised, we can
unintentionally cause more pain than if we’d had turned that down in the first
place, remember, you’re not doing any favors for yourself or anyone else by
taking on more than you can reasonably deliver.

Making Friends in a New Environment
Imagine being in the hallway of a crowded school. The
beil is ringing and countless students are changing classes. The noise of
conversation and the smell of freshly sharpened pencils fill the air. You're
new in town and this is your first day at school. You're afraid that you won't
fit in, someone will make fun of your hair, or you'II just simply embarrass
yourself by saying the wrong things. But with the following suggestions, you'II
know what you should do to achieve in a new surrounding.
By swallowing your fears and taking a chance, you'd be
surprised at all the possibilities that can occur by doing extracurricular
activities. You'll make friends, contribute to your school's overall success,
and increase your confidence along the way. Volunteering also does wonders and
it looks really good/on college applications as well. Participating in
extracurricular activities is an excellent way to make friends and become
active in your school.

Even though you might feel afraid to speak to
others,it's important to remember that being a nice guy goes a long way, When
you show people that you are friendly,it tells them that you are a good person
who gets along well with others. Encourage yourself to be the &first one
to talk to people. It's quite possible that they are just as nervous around
others as &you are, so make them feel comfortable and be the first to
speak up.
Nobody likes a gossiper or someone who stabs them in
the back. Would you like someone to tell your most forbidden secrets to the
entire world? Of course not, so it isn't wise to do it to someone else. It's
the golden rule: Do to others as you would have them do &to you. When
someone trusts you completely,it's something that shouldn't be taken lightly.
Trust is something to be cherished and valued, and showing others that you can
be relied on is essential to making new friends.
4&&&&&&&&&.
Sites like Facebook have completely taken over just
about every aspect of society, forever changing the way we arrange meetings,
conduct business, and interact with family and friends. These social networking
sites, even though they are fairly new, are effective methods for fully
utilizing basic human communication. With more and more teens using these sites
just about every second of every day, it would be wise to start your own
Facebook account to connect with possible friends. Just remember to use these
sites safely and wisely.
5&&&&&&&&.
This is the most important factor when you adapt to a
new environment. Stay true to who you are and be confident. By staying true to
yourself and your own beliefs, you are showing the world that you are an
individual who is proud of who you are, This kind of confidence is like a
magnet. It will attract all kinds &of people into your life, and these
people could possibly turn into new, lifelong friends. Simply put, you cannot
live a genuine Iife if you yourself are not genuine.

You are careful with your money: you collect all kinds
look for group-buy
you don't buy clothes
unless in a sale. Does all this make you a wise consumer?
Let's do the math first: you walk into a coffee shop
and see two deals for a cup of coffee. The first deal offers 33 percent extra
coffee. The second takes 33 percent off the& regular price. What's the
better deal? Well, they are about the same, you'd think. And you'd be wrong.
The deals appear to be equal, but in fact, they are different. Here's the math:
Let's say the standard coffee is 10 yuan and let's divide the amount of coffee
into three portions(部分). That makes about 3.3 yuan per portion,
The first deal gets you 4 portions for 10 yuan (2.5 yuan per portion) and the
second gets you 3 portions of coffee for 6.6 yuan (2.2 yuan per portion) and is
therefore a better deal.
In a new study published by the Journal of Marketing,
participants were asked the same question, and most of them chose the first
deal, the Atlantic website reported. Why? Because getting something extra for
free feels better than getting the same for less. The applications of this view
into consumer psychology(心理) are huge. Instead of offering direct
discounts, shops offer larger sizes or free samples.
According to the study, the reason why these marketing
tricks work is that consumers don't really know how much anything should cost,
so we rely on parts of our brains that &aren't strictly quantitative.
There are some traps we should be aware of when
shopping. First of all, we are heavily influenced by the first number. Suppose
you are shopping in Hong Kong. You walk into Hermes, and you see a 100,000 yuan
bag. &That's crazy.& You shake your head and leave. The next shop is
Gucci, a handbag here costs 25,000 yuan. The price is still high, but compared
to the 100,000 yuan price tag you just committed to your memory, this is a
steal. Stores often use the price difference to set consumers' expectation.
zxxk
Another trap we often fall to Is that we are not
really sure what things are worth. And so we use clues(暗示) to tell us what we ought to pay for them. US
economist Dan Ariely has done an experiment to prove this. According to the
Atlantic, Ariely pretended he was giving a lecture on poetry. He told one group
of students that the tickets cost money and another group that they would be
paid to attend. Then he informed both groups that thelecture was free. The
first group was anxious to attend, believing they were getting something of
value for free. The second group mostly declined, believing they were being forced
to volunteer for the same event without reward.
What's a lecture on poetry by an economist worth? The
students had no idea. That's& the point. Do we really know what a shirt is
worth ? What about a cup of coffee? What's the worth of a life insurance.policy?
Who knows? Most of us don't. As a result, our shopping& brain uses only
what is knowable:& visual(祝觉的) clues, invited
emotions, comparisons, and& a sense of bargain. We are not stupid. We are
just easily influenced.
